Jason Pretzel
Licensed Professional Counselor and Author

Jason Pretzel is an Alaskan Licensed Professional Counselor, author, and advocate for transformative change rooted in faith and science. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, he’s been shaped by the rugged beauty of the wilderness and the resilient spirit of its people. His journey in behavioral health spans over three decades, driven by a deep commitment to helping individuals, families, and communities rise above challenges and pursue lives of purpose, love, and growth.
Jason’s professional path began with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1994, followed by a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Middle Tennessee State University in 2004. Since becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, he’s worked across diverse settings—urban and rural, Alaskan Native villages and Tennessee communities—providing individual, family, group, and couples therapy. From leading crisis intervention teams to facilitating intensive therapeutic care at Assets, Inc., to counseling families through acute psychiatric challenges at Northstar Behavioral Health Hospital, he’s logged thousands of hours guiding people through struggles like addiction, suicidal ideation, aggression, and grief.
At the heart of Jason’s work is a cognitive-behavioral framework, grounded in the belief that meaningful change happens through relationships—both with others and with God. His faith, rooted in the Word of God, is the cornerstone of his private practice in Homer, Alaska. Every intervention, every conversation, is guided by the conviction that true healing aligns with biblical truth and scientific insight.
Beyond the counseling room, Jason is stepping into new territory as an author. His forthcoming non-fiction book explores the disciplined, incremental work—biblically and scientifically grounded—required to break free from harmful behaviors and cultivate positive, life-affirming habits. He’s also developing a second book, a collection of short stories drawn from real experiences counseling in remote Alaskan Native villages. These stories illuminate the unique challenges and profound resilience found in these communities.
Through his writing, speaking, and growing platform—spanning blogs, X, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram—he aims to inspire and equip others to press toward their higher calling. Whether you’re striving to overcome personal struggles, strengthen your relationships, or grow closer to God, my mission is to walk alongside you, offering tools, wisdom, and encouragement for the journey.
Alaska’s wilderness has taught him the value of perseverance, the beauty of simplicity, and the power of community. You are invited to join Jason in this pursuit of transformation—for yourself, for those you love, and for the greater good.
